Der in Österreich geborene Theodore Bikel war ein bewunderter Schauspieler, Volkssänger, Musiker, Komponist, Gewerkschafter und politischer Aktivist. Im Jahr 2014, mit 90 Jahren, schrieb Bikel eine Hanukkah-Geschichte: Er hielt seine Erinnerungen in Wien von 1937 bis 1938 inklusive „Anschluss“ und Novemberprogrome fest. Die Geschichte erscheint nun erstmalig als illustriertes Buch für Hanukkah 2019 samt Vorwort, Glossar und Notizen von Bikels Witwe.
